Aside from arguments about who prepares the best jollof rice, Nigerians and Ghanaians wage war against each other when it pertains to bragging rights at AFCON.

While the Super Eagles of Nigeria qualified for the next round of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast (otherwise known as Cote Dā€™Ivoire), the Black Stars of Ghana who have somehow finished the group stages in 3rd position with 2 points in Group B will be patient to know their fate at the ongoing continental competition.

In this moment, it is not certain they might be qualifying from the group as one of the ā€œBest losersā€ as they were only able to garner 2 points from three matches. Simply put, it is an herculean task, however, this is AFCON, anything can happen.

Ghanaian fans across the globe have been unable to decipher how their athletes failed to hold on to a 2-goal lead against a Mozambique team that were very much heading out of the competition until the 90th minute of the clash.

In the 15th minute, Jordan Ayew had put Ghana ahead, placing them in second place behind an impressive Cape Verde side that was simultaneously vying against the Pharoahs of Egypt in another match in Group B.

Jordan Ayew converted a second penalty in the 70th minute in second half to solidify Ghanaā€™s place in the round of 16 or so we thought until the 90th minute when Genu Catamo pulled one back from the spot for Mozambique.

In the concluding minutes of the contest, the Ghanaian players were unable to put themselves together as they gave away their lead in the concluding minutes of the match.

Reinildo Mandavaā€™s last minute equalizer meant the Black Stars of Ghana would have to wait until Wednesday night to confirm their status as one of the ā€œbest losersā€ to go through to the next round.

Meanwhile, Mozambique despite being on the same point with Ghana has an inferior goal difference, hence, they have been eliminated from the competition.

Cape Verde who already qualified as top of Group B after winning their opening matches against Ghana and Mozambique played a 1-1 draw against Egypt. Interestingly, the Pharoahs of Egypt will go through to the next round with 3 points without winning a single match.
