No plan to scrap LCDAs, says Gov Aiyedatiwa

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has said his administration has no plans to abolish the recently created Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

In a statement, Aiyedatiwa’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, disclosed that the government will soon establish transition committees for the 18 Local Government Areas and 33 Local Council Development Areas in preparation for the upcoming local government elections in the state.

Governor Aiyedatiwa made this disclosure during a meeting with the former members of Caretaker Committees of the LGAs and LCDAs at the Governor’s Office in Akure.

The governor emphasised that the creation of the LCDAs is one of the legacies of the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, which must be preserved.

He informed the 255 former appointees that their inauguration and assumption of office had been prevented by a court case initiated by the opposition party and subsequent court injunction.

Mr Aiyedatiwa mentioned that efforts were underway to resolve the court case through a political solution, which has been approved by the court.

He further stated that once the case is withdrawn from the court, all errors made in the composition of the list of appointees would be corrected, and transition committees will be inaugurated.

The governor urged the former appointees to demonstrate more commitment to the party within their respective local government areas, emphasizing the importance of unity for the progress of the APC and the development of the state.

The State All Progressive Congress (APC) Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, echoed the governor’s call for unity within the party, commending the governor for engaging with party members.

Honourable Olaniyi Gbenga and Mrs Funke Kumuyi, speaking on behalf of the former appointees, expressed gratitude to the governor and pledged their loyalty and support for his administration.
