Tinubu appoints new NACA Director-General

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Temitope Ilori as the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) for an initial four-year term.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu highlighted Dr. Ilori’s background as a senior lecturer in the Department of Community Medicine at the University of Ibadan, along with her role as a consultant family physician at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Dr. Ilori obtained her MBBS degree from the University of Ibadan and completed her residency training at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. She is a fellow of the Faculty of Family Medicine, West African College of Physicians, and was the recipient of the A.O. Senbanjo Prize in 2012. Additionally, she holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Ibadan, and is currently pursuing a PhD in the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Witwatersrand, South Africa.

She has co-authored over 30 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Prior to her appointment, Dr. Ilori served as the Commissioner for Health in Osun State from 2011 to 2014 and was the Chairperson of the Osun State Agency on Control of HIV/AIDS (O-SACA).

President Tinubu expressed confidence in Dr. Ilori’s ability to leverage her extensive experience and expertise in advancing NACA’s mandate. This mandate includes coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the implementation of the Strategic National Plan for the control of HIV/AIDS/STDs, as well as mobilizing resources for an effective and sustainable response to HIV/AIDS/STDs.
