African Games: Tobi Amusan wins third successive women’s 110mh Gold

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has won yet another women’s 110mh following her victory at the African Games in Ghana on Wednesday.

Amusan raced to an impressive time of 12.89 seconds having encountered a false-start scare during the initial race attempt.

The race officials decided to not to disqualify her but rather issued her a yellow card.

Amusan’s latest victory means she has sealed her third straight African Games championship Gold medal in the 110mh.

The 26-year-old won the race ahead of Madagascar’s Sidonie Fiadanantsoa who finished in second place (13.19 seconds).

Faith Osamuyi from Nigeria narrowly missed securing a spot on the podium. She finished in 4th place with a time of 13.77 seconds.

Amusan is the current world record holder in the 100m hurdles, with a time of 12.12 seconds. She achieved it during the semi-final of the women’s 100m hurdles in Eugene, Oregon, in 2022.

At both the Commonwealth and African levels, Amusan holds titles and records in the 100m hurdles.

She won back-to-back Commonwealth and African titles in 2018 and 2022 in the 100m hurdles and is also now a three-time African Games champion in the event.
