Tinubu mourns victims of Ogun gas explosion

President Bola Tinubu expressed sympathy for the victims of the gas explosion in Ita-Oshin, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State. 

The explosion, originating from a single gas truck, caused loss of life and property in the community. 

Tinubu, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Ajuri Ngelale, also extended condolences to the Ogun State Government and residents affected by the tragedy.

He commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his swift actions to address the situation and restore calm. 

Furthermore, Tinubu assured the people of Ogun State, especially the victims, of his unwavering support during this difficult time.

Governor intervention 

In response, Governor Dapo Abiodun ordered the evacuation of affected buildings to facilitate integrity tests on the structures. 

He announced this decision through a statement on his official page.

“During our on-the-spot assessment of the area, we also assured affected individuals that they would receive adequate compensation for property damage and medical expenses. 

“Additionally, we questioned the safety of trucks transporting Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) nationwide and emphasised the importance of regulatory oversight and industry standards. 

“We have directed relevant agencies to ensure the roadworthiness of vehicles transporting petroleum products into the state and have called a meeting with the Petroleum Tanker Drivers Association to address safety concerns. 

“In Ogun State, we are committed to implementing legislation and regulatory frameworks to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure the safety of our citizens.”
