Chelsea’s Cole Palmer wins 2023/24 Premier League Young Player of the Season award

Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer has been voted the 2023/24 Premier League Young Player of the Season.

Palmer has experienced a fantastic season since joining Chelsea from Manchester City last summer.

The 22-year-old has scored 22 goals and assisted 10 this term. His 32-goal contribution is the joint-most of any player in the Premier League.

As it stands, Palmer is only the third player in history to reach 30+ goal involvements in a Premier League campaign while aged 21 or younger, following the exploits of Chris Sutton and Robbie Fowler.

The young player is the second-highest scorer in the league. He has 22 goals to his name. His tally is second only to Manchester City striker Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot race.

In terms of assists, his 10 supplies rank joint-second. Only Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins (13) had more than the Englishman in the race for Playmaker of the season.

Palmer is one of only four players this season to reach double figures for both goals and assists. This is along with Watkins, Mohamed Salah and Anthony Gordon.

He has already equalled Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard’s Chelsea record of 16 home Premier League goals in a season. This record could break against AFC Bournemouth at in Chelsea’s home game on Sunday.

To decide the winner of this award, public votes were combined with those of a panel of football experts.

Interestingly, he is also in the running to be only the second player to win both the Young Player of the Season and Player of the Season awards in the same campaign. Haaland did so in 2022/23.

The winner of the Premier League Player of the Season will be announced at 11:00 BST on Saturday 18 May.
