If it is not Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, most of us do not know about other commemorations of entities and ideologies our daily lives revolve around. Though it may be because these celebrations are not as popular as the rest, we know little or nothing about them. This article aims to bring to you the world commemorations that happen to be celebrated today, May 20.
1. World Bee Day
Why are we celebrating bees? Bees are essential pollinators for plants and not just mere stingers. Without them, we might have run out of food to eat. Not only are bees great pollinators, but they are also the main supplier of honey that we consume for medicinal purposes. This world commemoration was first observed in 2018.
2. Cameroon Republic Day
The West African country, Cameroon observes its National Day every May 20. According to the desk of her presidency, the celebration is to ‘commemorate President Ahmadou Ahidjo’s abolishment of the federal government and creation of a unitary country in 1972’.
3. World Streaming Day
The irony of this year’s celebration is that it falls on Monday. Most people might not stream visual content because they are held up at work or school. Moreover, the commemoration is to withhold the streaming culture amongst people. It is one of the blessings technology has blessed us with.
4. Clinical Trials Day
Before drugs are placed out for purchase, they have been tested on some people. Of course, these people have agreed to it legally under normal circumstances even with financial remuneration. One must not forget that it is a big risk. The first clinical trial was conducted by Scottish physician James Lind in 1774.

5. Be a Millionaire Day
I think this day should be changed to ‘Be a Billionaire Day’. Most people want more above the six-figure threshold especially in Nigeria. With an inflation rate, millions in naira might not take care of people’s expenses. But who won’t mind a few million dollars? This day is commemorated to have people wonder what it feels like to be a millionaire.
6. Victoria Day
The Canadians are enjoying an extra day of the weekend holiday. They are celebrating Victoria’s Day slated for a Monday before May 25. The celebration was formerly celebrated on May 24, the natural birth date of Queen Victoria.
7. International Red Sneakers Day
This is not a day to celebrate red sneakers but to create awareness for food allergies. Most times, we just care about getting food into our stomachs. We care less about the nutritional contents, or how well our digestive system is compatible with the food we take in. Wearing sneakers on this day creates awareness for the cause.
