The Head of the Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Dr. Amos Dangut, has appealed for an exemption from the strike initiated by the organized labor to allow the council to conduct the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) without disruptions.
The WASSCE, which began on April 30, is scheduled to end on June 24, 2024.
The nationwide strike, which started on Monday, June 3, 2024, was declared by organized labor in response to the Federal Governmentās refusal to raise the proposed minimum wage from N60,000.
In his statement, Dangut expressed empathy for the plight of Nigerian workers but stressed that preventing candidates from completing the WASSCE would place them at a global disadvantage.
