Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and former Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola have urged graduating students of Lagos State University (LASU) to leverage their skills, technological advancements, and self-discipline for a prosperous future.
This advice was given during the 27th Convocation Lecture of Lagos State University (LASU), themed āEmbracing the Future: Navigating the Intersection of Technology and Humanity,ā held at the university’s Ojo campus in Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, encouraged graduates to stay updated with technological developments and emphasized the importance of hard work in achieving success.
He highlighted how technology is revolutionizing education, transforming social interactions, redefining the workforce, and significantly impacting physical health.

Governor Sanwo-Olu cited Lagos State’s implementation of 11 Oracle ERP modules as an example of how technology enhances government efficiency and eliminates ghost workers.
In his lecture, Mr Fashola emphasised preserving humanity and intrinsic values despite technological advancements. He advised students to continuously educate themselves and stressed that self-discipline is crucial for maintaining their reputation and integrity.
He underscored that only hard work leads to sustainable wealth, not shortcuts or illicit activities.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello reiterated the university’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance services and improve the lives of staff and students.
She noted the significant impact of technology on education through online learning, digital tools, and virtual classrooms, while emphasizing the need to balance technological advancements with humanity.
