Omah Lay claims he is being imitated by other Afrobeats artistes

Nigerian recording artiste, Stanley Omah Didia who is better known as Omah Lay has mentioned that he is being imitated by his contemporaries.

He claimed he started a new sound of afrobeats which many of his colleagues are now copying.

Speaking in a recent interview with Billboard, the 27-year-old Nigerian musician said, ā€œThe artists coming out from Nigeria right now, not just Nigeria but afrobeats in general are taking a bit of my stuff, the stuff I started, everybody tryna copy something.ā€œ

The ā€˜Sosoā€™ crooner also accused afrobeats poster stars of ā€œwateringā€ the genre down in a bid to appeal to foreign audiences to make more money.

He lamented the infiltration of the South African genre, amapiano into afrobeats clubs.

ā€œI donā€™t think I am happy with what the pioneers of Afrobeats are doing right now. The front guys are watering it down by just chasing the bags.

ā€œI canā€™t remember the last time I heard a proper Afrobeats Song. Itā€™s now Amapiano in Afrobeats clubs, not a proper Afrobeats song,ā€ he lamented.
