Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

While Apple will officially announce the iPhone 16 line at their upcoming event in over a week, they will also reveal iOS 18. That is already a given, as Apple showcased it at this yearā€™s Apple Developer Conference. But unless you are getting a new iPhone this year, you may be running an old iOS version that Apple no longer supports.

It is not unusual for Apple to drop some iPhone models every year. For example, last year, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X were not on the compatibility list of iOS 17. You can only use new features by getting a new supported phone.

Let us assist you in finding out if you are going to be able to install iOS 18 as well as the new Apple Intelligence on your iPhone. Are you perplexed about what to expect in the update? Now letā€™s briefly sum up the main announcements concerning WWDC and the biggest insights into iOS 18.

iPhones with operating system compatible with iOs 18

Here’s some good news: Apple has stated that if your iPhone was qualified for upgrade to iOS 17 it should also qualify for iOS 18. This means most of the new nice operating features could be achieved without having to purchase a new phone.

Compatible models include:

  • iPhone SE (Second generation of later)
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone XS and XS are two of the new so-called flagship Apple smartphones that were released in the year 2018.
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro & 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro max
  • Third, the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro max 11.
  • iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15, 15 Plus iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max

In other words, if you possess an iPhone released before 2017 including iPhone 8 or iPhone X, you will be unable to upgrade to the latest iOS. However, you will still be able to use your phone but you will be deprived of the newest additions to the operating system.

Is your iPhone compatible with Apple Intelligence?

While your older device will still be able to support the latest iOS, chances are that you won’t get to try the Apple Intelligence beta yet. Unless you have an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max ā€” the top-end 2023 models ā€” yourĀ iPhone isn’t eligible. It’s a safe bet that the new iPhone 16 models will be fully Apple Intelligence compatible, but we’ll have to await the official details at the September 9 event.
