The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that it is not responsible for the admission process of Higher National Diploma (HND) students.

In a statement released by JAMB’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, the board said that it has no involvement, authority, or control over the admissions process for HND candidates.

The statement also noted that JAMB does not handle admissions for other higher institutions’ programs outside of their regular admissions process.

JAMB further stated that the admission of candidates into HND programs falls outside its mandate and is therefore irrelevant to the board.

This clarification comes after some HND students accused JAMB of being responsible for their inability to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

The students claimed they were not mobilized for service because they completed their National Diploma (ND) through a part-time program.

“Most of the students were reported to have been admitted into their institutions for the National Diploma without the knowledge of the Board. With this, the Board graciously condoned and endorsed the said admission for the ND programme, and that was the only relationship with such candidates.

“Their subsequent admission to HND is unknown and irrelevant to the mandate of the Board. As such, accusing the Board of issues it has no mandate over is preposterous.

“Some of these candidates have crossed the lines of criminality, which the Board will soon appropriately address,” the board said.
