NNPC, Seplat JV hold free eye health services in Imo

The NNPC Ltd and Seplat Energy Joint Venture (JV) has carried out a comprehensive medical outreach, offering free eye health services to individuals with visual impairments in the Ohaji/Egbema community of Imo State.

In a statement, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, highlighted that through the “Eye Can See” programme, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the JV distributed over 10,000 reading glasses and performed 639 eye surgeries, including cataract removals.

The services brought much-needed medical aid to the host community, where access to specialized eye care has been limited.

Soneye noted that since its inception in 2017, the “Eye Can See” programme has become a beacon of hope within NNPC’s eastern asset, directly benefiting more than 20,000 individuals.

Additionally, the Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), Bala Wunti, represented by Obinna Otuu, Manager, JV Asset B, emphasized the initiative’s alignment with NNPC Ltd’s broader corporate mission of enhancing the lives of Nigerians.

Wunti further explained that NNPC Ltd. is committed to being more than just an energy provider, underscoring the company’s dedication to enriching communities through impactful initiatives like the “Eye Can See” programme.

“We are a partner in progress, dedicated to making sustainable contributions to the communities that support us,” he added.

He stated that the “Eye Can See” initiative embodies their conviction that corporate organizations have both the capacity and responsibility to contribute meaningfully to societal development.

He further emphasized that the program extends beyond providing immediate medical care by offering educational resources on healthier lifestyle choices, aiming to prevent conditions like hypertension and diabetes—major contributors to irreversible vision loss.

Expressing gratitude for the unwavering support from local government authorities, beneficiaries, and NNPC Ltd’s partners, Wunti highlighted that, in collaboration with Seplat, the National Oil Company is leading efforts towards a brighter future, where access to essential healthcare services is a reality for everyone.
