Can you stand the rain: How to show love to your partner after a big fight

This doesn’t necessarily mean love is absent between both parties nor does it mean either party of the couple is not good enough or evil, but most times it’s a litmus test of strength and bond the universe gives.

Fights, disagreements and misunderstandings are almost inevitable in relationships and marriages, but friction only opposes motion not prevent it. Moreover, aren’t stormy days the reasons we get thankful for sunny ones?

Here are a couple ways on how to show love to your partner or show that you’re still in love with your partner after a big fight:

1. Apologise sincerely

Apologies go a long way in conflict management, a heartfelt apology is often the first step to reconciliation. It starts with acknowledging your mistakes and express regret for any pain you caused.

Apology also happens to mark the starting point of change, as Dr Caroline Leaf once said “an apology without change is just emotional manipulation”. So remember, you aren’t just apologising, you are also making a commitment to the process of change and to doing better.

2. Show empathy and understanding

Seeing things in each other’s optics and understanding why you both got hurt and precisely what got the other individual hurt is key.

Let them know you understand why they felt upset and that you value their feelings. Remember seeing things not only from your perspective but theirs too is so essential.

3. Spend Quality Time Together

Rekindle your connection by spending quality time together. Engage in activities you both enjoy and create new memories. This also fills up the void and replaces hurtful feelings with loving ones.

4. Express your love

As shocking as this may sound, everyone loves words of affirmation, just one more than the other. You’ve got to remind your partner how much you love them both in words and in actions. You can show love to your partner by just expressing it.

Write them a love letter, suprise them with a thoughtful gift or simply just tell them how much they mean to you. This creates some sort of reassurance and a safety net for both partners.

5. Seek professional help

This often is an option of last resort if you are still struggling to resolve issues on your own after trying all listed above. You can consider seeking the guidance of a therapist or counselor or religious and spiritual leaders( e.g pastors). They can provide tools and techniques to help communicate effectively and strengthen your relationship.

Remember, a fight can only strain your relationship, it doesn’t have to be the end. The key to reconciliation is patience, understanding and a genuine desire to rebuild your connection
