Jean-Philippe Mateta’s first-half goal proved decisive as Crystal Palace secured their first Premier League victory this season after beating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0.
With three consecutive defeats weighing them down, Oliver Glasner’s squad rose to the challenge with a vital win at Selhurst Park.
Mateta’s breakthrough came in the 31st minute, courtesy of Eberechi Eze’s clever flick that set him up perfectly. Mateta drilled his shot home from close range to put Palace in control.

Despite Spurs’ attempts to rally, including a close call when Brennan Johnson hit the post, it was Palace who looked more likely to double their lead. Eze saw a second goal ruled out for offside, while Adam Wharton’s effort was superbly saved by Guglielmo Vicario.
The Eagles were nearly punished for not extending their lead, yet managed to hold onto the morale-boosting result. The win lifts them to 17th in the table, while Spurs sit eighth after suffering their second defeat in three matches.
A key moment for Palace came when Will Hughes, who replaced the injured Jefferson Lerma, whipped in a dangerous cross that Maxence Lacroix headed over. Just minutes later, Daniel Munoz capitalised on a defensive error, setting up Eze’s flick for Mateta to score.
Spurs had their share of missed opportunities. A scramble that saw Johnson hit the post and Trevoh Chalobah’s goal line clearance were some highlights from the game. Dean Henderson further frustrated Spurs by denying James Maddison’s attempt.
Though Eze appeared to have doubled Palace’s lead, VAR confirmed his goal was offside. Palace continued to threaten, with Vicario making key saves against Ismaila Sarr and Wharton. On the other end, Spurs couldn’t find a response.
Without the injured Son Heung-min, Spurs’ lack of firepower was evident. Ange Postecoglou now faces concerns as Tottenham’s recent struggles continue.
