In 2021, Netflix’s Behind Her Eyes thrilled psychological thriller fans because of its plot twist and the supernatural concept in which the movie stemmed from.Till now, a lot of folks are still not over the plot twist in the movie.
Only the horror genre did we have someone’s mind been taken over by another entity- that entity in the sense of demons or foul spirits. Behind Her Eyes exposed us to a supernatural theme of mind transfer and body swap in such a way that it wasn’t tied to any technology.
This concept makes it spooky and eerie such that the audience is moved to the edge of their seat , determining the real possibility of the concept. While we cannot get over this, It’s What’s Inside was released on Netflix on October 4. It took a turn in presenting the mind transfer and body swap concept with the use of technology.
The introduction of technology as the transfer factor kind of watered down the concept from being supernatural. The plot twist was wild but we had seen the same motif in Behind Her Eyes. The movie directing was kind of giving us a Tenet feel with the plot complexity when the characters switched bodies. Someone said you might need to take a pen and paper to write the characters so you won’t mix them up.
Right from the beginning of the movie, there was something fishy about the character, Forbes. The way he showed up was a foreshadowing of what was to come. The setting of the movie already sends a foreshadowing signal to viewers on how the movie might end. If you have watched Bodies Bodies, then you might have been able to predict the movie. The only thing left for the viewers to find out was how the plot twist was going to unfold.

Till the last scene of the movie, you’re skeptical as a viewer about who is who. I didn’t think the Christopher Nolan’s directing style of complexity was necessary in a psychological thriller. As a movie enthusiast, I’ll always pick Behind Her Eyes over “It’s What’s Inside”. The movie duration for the latter might be one of the reasons the movie’s plot wasn’t expounded enough. Behind Her Eyes was good with six episodes as a season and we got the gist of the story . Even with that, some fans are still requesting for another season.
Why Behind Her Eyes is the better movie
The movie duration for It’s What’s Inside was an advantage because it increased the tempo of the suspense in the plot exposition. But one thing, the movie directors were not inclusive about was audience comprehension. A movie is meant to be enjoyed and not one that stresses your mind such that you have to rack your brain to place characters.
Behind Her Eyes being a movie with a very newish concept was particular about audience comprehension and well as movie visibility. A few folks have shown their concern about It’s What’s Inside, some preferred that Netflix would have just renewed Behind Her Eyes for a second season instead of working on It’s What’s Inside.
Netflix’s Behind Her Eyes rates 7.2/10 on IMDb while It’s What’s Inside rates 6.6/10 on IMDb. As you can see, the difference is in the rating. The latter faces a lot of critics on IMDb. Rotten Tomatoes even describes the movie as “disorienting”.
The plot for It’s what’s inside was too warped and gave it the labyrinth effect such that we as the audience are left confused. We do love our minds to be blown but we also want to understand what’s going on.
Anyways, we love the Gen Z approach to telling the body and mind swap psychological thriller. Apart from that, nothing else.
