Sporting Lisbon produced a shock 4-1 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League, sending the English champions to their third straight loss across all competitions.
At the Jose Alvalade Stadium, Phil Fodenās fourth-minute goal gave City an early lead, but the Portuguese side responded in style. Viktor Gyƶkeres equalised right before halftime and completed a hat-trick in the second half, including two penalties. Meanwhile, Norwegian striker Erling Haaland missed a penalty for City after hitting the crossbar when they trailed 3-1.
The match was a farewell Champions League appearance for Sporting’s manager Ruben Amorim, who is set to join Manchester United. His side now stands second in the group with 10 points from four matches, while City drop to sixth with seven points.

City’s amazing run brought to an end
Cityās loss in Lisbon also ended two historic streaks for the club. Sportingās win ended Man Cityās 26-game unbeaten run in the Champions League and a 27-game streak in European competitionsāboth records that had surpassed previous marks by a single game. Only few days ago, Bournemouth had ended the English side’s Premier League recordāa 32-game unbeaten run.
Itās been a rough week for Pep Guardiolaās team, who has lost in the Champions League for the first time since May 2022 (against Real Madrid). A week ago, they lost 2-1 to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup. This recent slump has raised questions about Cityās form as they struggle to regain momentum.
