The Kwara State Government has restricted some categories of vehicles from accessing Ahmadu Bello Way, GRA, Ilorin.
The Ministry of Works and Transport issued this restriction notice, directing the Kwara State Road Transport Management Authority (KWARTMA) to begin enforcement immediately.
The Ministry said it has started installing signage at key locations, spanning from Challenge through Ahmadu Bello Way.
According to a statement from the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Abdulquawiy Olododo, Ahmadu Bello Way serves as a crucial route linking to the Government House.
The Commissioner said the newly erected signage will restrict access to motorcycles, tricycles, commercial vehicles, and certain categories of heavy-duty vehicles along this route.

“In preparation for the enforcement of this directive, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of KWARTMA, Engr. Bamidele Michael emphasized that the move aims to complement existing “No Parking” signs and enhance road safety and security.”
He also urged traders to refrain from conducting business on pedestrian walkways, particularly in areas such as Ojaoba, Gambari, Ita-Amodu, Agaka, Adifa, Gambari, Balogun Fulani, Emir’s Road, Post Office to Challenge, and Murtala Muhammed Way, among others, citing the hazards posed by encroaching on these paths.
Additionally, Engr. Michael warned of the increasing incidence of driving against traffic (one-way) and stated that any driver found guilty of this dangerous behaviour would face legal sanctions.
“Unlike the āNo Parkingā signs, the new āNOT ALLOWEDā signage along Ahmadu Bello Way will impose heavier fines of N50,000 for violations, with additional measures to ensure full compliance.
“The public is urged to cooperate with the state government in ensuring safer roads for the benefit of all.”
