Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team coach Bankole Olowookere has expressed excitement at his nomination for the 2024 CAF Women’s Coach of the Year award, NRTC reports.
Olowookere led the Flamingos to a quarter-final finish at this year’s U-17 Women’s World Cup (WWC) hosted by the Dominican Republic.
After beating New Zealand 4-1 in their opening game, the Flamingos walloped Ecuador 4-0 in their second match. The Nigerian girls then rounded off their group phase campaign with a 1-0 victory against the hosts.

However, the West Africans were knocked out in the last eight by the United States following a 2-0 loss. The USA later crashed out in the semi-finals after losing to North Korea.
In the final, the Asian side defeated Spain 4-3 on penalties to ultimately lift the title.
Interestingly, Olowookere is nominated for the award alongside Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team coach Christopher Danjuma.
Both coaches are renowned in Nigeria and have contributed immensely to the development of women’s football over the years.
