Google Calendar and Tasks unite on Android

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

The Google Calendar Android app now has a new feature called Google Tasks. In this version, you do not require the standalone app to view or even create new Task items.

Tasks was already present as a mini-app on the web version of Google Calendar, and you are seeing its feature gradually introduced to the Android version. The update is instant and being deployed in the ā€œRapid Releaseā€ channel. If you donā€™t see the Tasks button yet, you can update the Calendar app from the Play Store on your own as well.

ā€œThis update is aimed at making it easier for the users to keep track of, and prioritise their tasks, most especially when on the move,ā€ the statement goes on. After that, your Google Calendar application should have a miniature Tasks icon to the right of your avatar. As you can see in the web version of this text. Tap it, then it should take you to the Tasks screen with three tabs.

It is four for all your tasks, those in progress, completed and all those that are unpaid. This area sums up all the accomplished work and also pending activities. Besides this tab, we have a ā€œNew Listā€ tab through which you enter the new list where you can give a name to the new list and create a new list of tasks. With a new blank list, you just navigate to the bottom and use the plus sign to create new tasks. For the task, you can name it, add extras to the task details, or schedule it for a specific time or day (if recurring, it can be set to auto-repeat). Scheduled tasks will appear right within Google Calendar and youā€™ll be receiving notifications for Calendar when the due dates come around. Task you can also divide it into subtasks so that you can separate it into even simpler parts.

Last, when it comes to setting priority on a particular task there is a star symbol that can be used to identify a priority task. These ā€œstarredā€ tasks will appear in their tab to the right of the app, meaning that youā€™ll never lose the list of to-do tasks due to clutter. After you make a notation that a particular task is starred, this task will not be shown in the starred tab as it is cleared immediately after being checked off.
