Why couples that wear ‘and co’, bathe together, may have lasting marriages

5 ways to know if a man is truly interested in you

Marriage is a beautiful union, one that thrives on love, understanding, and compromise. As someone who loves and values the idea of marriage, I’ve taken my time to observe couples around me. From the lessons I’ve gleaned from others, I’ve realized that there are small, seemingly insignificant things that, when done consistently, can strengthen the bond between a husband and wife.

1. Wearing and co or matching outfits

Let me start with something that often sparks debate: wearing matching outfits, popularly known as “and co.” My brother detests it, and I still don’t understand why. I think it’s a simple yet profound way to identify with your partner. Whether it’s at church, a wedding, or a community meeting, wearing matching outfits screams, “We are one!” It’s a public declaration of unity, a visual reminder that marriage is a partnership.

Now, let’s consider why this makes many women happy. For most women, it’s not just about the clothes but what the act symbolizes: care, thoughtfulness, and public acknowledgment. When a man wears and co with his wife, it’s like saying, “I see you, I honor you, and I’m proud to stand by your side.” For many men who shy away from public displays of affection, this small act could mean the world to their wives. Trust me, gentlemen, it’s worth considering, especially if it makes her smile.

2. Praying and studying the Word of God together

As a Christian, I believe that a marriage built on faith is like a house built on a solid rock. Praying together and studying the Word of God are not just spiritual acts but also bonding moments. When a couple prays, they share their deepest desires, fears, and gratitude with God and each other. It fosters trust and creates a sense of unity.

In Nigeria, where societal pressures and extended family influences can weigh heavily on marriages, a couple that prays together is better equipped to face challenges. Prayer reminds us of our shared purpose and connects us to a higher power, giving us the strength to navigate life’s complexities together. If you ask me, there’s no better foundation than this.

3. Eating together on the same plate

I know this might sound old-fashioned, but there’s something deeply intimate about eating from the same plate with your spouse. In Nigerian culture, this is more than just a romantic gesture; it’s a sign of unity and love. It shows that you’re willing to share, even in the most mundane ways.

Eating together also provides an opportunity to converse and connect. In a world filled with distractions, sitting down to share a meal can be a moment of peace and togetherness. And for the skeptics, let me assure you that this little act can dissolve tension and make arguments seem trivial. After all, how can you stay mad at someone you’re breaking bread with?

4. Taking your bath together

Now, this one might raise eyebrows, but hear me out. Bathing together is an act of vulnerability and intimacy. It’s about letting down your guard and sharing a private moment with your spouse. For many, it’s not about the act itself but the connection it fosters.

In a society like ours, where modesty is deeply ingrained, many couples shy away from this. But I believe that marriage is the one place where you should be completely unguarded. Bathing together can be a playful, relaxing, and bonding experience. Why be shy about it when it’s one of the safest spaces to be yourself?

5. Using a joint account and buying properties together

This is perhaps the most controversial point, but I think it’s worth discussing. In a country like Nigeria, where financial independence is highly valued, the idea of a joint account can feel risky. However, it’s also a sign of trust and commitment. Sharing financial resources and making joint decisions about property sends a powerful message: “We’re in this together.”

Some people argue that a joint account exposes them to potential exploitation, especially in cases of marital conflict. While this is a valid concern, I believe that transparency and clear communication can mitigate these risks. When both parties are committed to the marriage, pooling resources becomes a way of achieving common goals. Whether it’s building a family home or saving for the children’s education, working together financially strengthens the bond of trust.
