In a significant move to uphold justice and equity, the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the immediate reinstatement of staff members of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, who were unlawfully disengaged in March 2023.

The affected staff, members of the Academic Staff Union of the University (ASUU), were relieved of their duties by the defunct Special Intervention Team (SIT) under the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Their dismissal followed protests demanding the payment of outstanding salaries and other entitlements owed by the previous administration.

Announcing the decision, Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, emphasised the current administration’s commitment to natural justice and equity.

ā€œThe Government of Senator Monday Okpebholo believes in correcting any injustice meted out to Edo State citizens. This reinstatement underscores His Excellency’s adherence to the rule of law in governance at all times,” the statement read.

The reinstatement has been widely praised as a step toward reconciliation and fairness in the state’s higher education system.

It also reflects Governor Okpebholo’s dedication to fostering a just and inclusive administration for all Edo citizens.

The reinstated staff members are expected to resume their roles immediately, marking a new chapter in their relationship with the institution and the state government.
