Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho showcased his quality as Sevilla brushed aside UE Olot 3-1 to progress in the Copa del Rey.
The Super Eagles forward added another goal to his tournament tally in a match that offered moments of brilliance.
Sevilla began as clear favourites, but the opening exchanges told a different story. Olot’s defensive discipline kept the visitors frustrated, and the underdogs even earned a penalty that could have flipped the script. However, their failure to capitalise left the door wide open.
Shortly after, Sevilla were handed a lifeline when an Olot handball in the box gifted them a penalty. Gonzalo Montiel stepped up and dispatched it with ease to ensure his side went into the break with the lead.

The second half was a different tale as Sevilla found their rhythm and punished Olot’s fading resolve. Three minutes after the restart, Juanlu Sánchez struck with precision to double the lead. The second goal gave the La Liga side a firm grip on proceedings.
Iheanacho scores Sevilla’s third
Not one to miss out on the action, 28-year-old Iheanacho made his mark in the 73rd minute. Timing his run perfectly, he latched onto a pinpoint cross and guided the ball home. The goal not only extended Sevilla’s lead but also marked Iheanacho’s third strike in this year’s competition.
Olot did manage to pull one back through Oriol Ayala in stoppage time, but it was too little, too late. Their valiant effort was ultimately overshadowed by Sevilla’s quality and Iheanacho’s clinical touch.
As Sevilla celebrate their progress, speculation lingers over Iheanacho’s future at the club. The former Leicester man is yet to find his scoring boots in La Liga, fueling rumours of a potential January departure.
