Topics for this Edition: Portable vs Queen Dami, Yahaya Bello, Manchester City, tax reform bills and the detty December.
Entertainment: Portable vs Queen Dami
Social media was set ablaze this week as Nigerian singer Portable and his wife, Queen Dami, aired their marital differences during a TikTok live session. The fallout escalated, leading to Portable evicting Queen Dami from his apartment.
The public was split in their reactions after Queen Dami accused Portable of abuse and other misconduct, while the singer made counter-allegations.
Critics of Portable’s actions deemed his behaviour disrespectful and insensitive, especially given Queen Dami’s recent widowhood following the death of her husband, the late Alaafin of Oyo.
They argued that Portable should have shown more empathy during this challenging period. However, Portable’s defenders claimed Queen Dami’s actions during the TikTok live session were disrespectful, justifying Portable’s decision to protect his boundaries.
The drama continues to spark heated debates online.
Politics: Yahaya Bello’s bail sparks public outrage
The Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, setting conditions that have stirred public discontent. Bello, accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of misappropriating ₦80 billion, was granted bail of ₦500 million.
Justice Emeka Nwite ruled that Bello must produce two sureties, owners of verified Abuja properties, and surrender his international passport. While awaiting the fulfilment of these conditions, Bello was remanded at Kuje Correctional Center.

Nigerians have criticised the decision, arguing that the bail amount pales in comparison to the alleged fraud and undermines justice. Many believe Bello should remain in custody, citing the symbolic and practical importance of holding public officials accountable for corruption.
Sports: Manchester City struggles amid shocking slump
Manchester City’s recent struggles have left fans and pundits stunned as the team faces an unexpected dip in form.
Following their seventh defeat in 10 matches, including a 2-0 loss to Juventus in the Champions League, questions loom over the club’s future under Pep Guardiola.
Fans have expressed frustration over tactical missteps, player performances, and overall team mentality. Some have called for urgent changes to address the issues, while others remain optimistic that the team can bounce back.
As City prepared to face Manchester United, anticipation was high, with football lovers eager to see whether Guardiola’s side could turn their fortunes around or continue their losing streak.
Leadingstories: Mixed reactions to Nigeria’s tax reform bills
The Nigerian government’s proposed tax reforms continue to spark intense debate across the nation. Supporters argue the reforms will simplify the tax system, increase government revenue, and incentivize states to generate their funds.
However, critics worry about the ripple effects, particularly the proposed VAT hike. Many fear the changes could lead to inflation, higher costs of living, and reduced purchasing power for ordinary Nigerians.
Others question the government’s track record of financial accountability, expressing scepticism about the effective use of additional tax revenues.
Business: “Detty December” faces economic strain
As the holiday season approaches, many Nigerians face the harsh reality of economic hardship. Rising inflation and soaring commodity prices, driven by recent fiscal policies, have left families struggling to plan for Christmas celebrations.
With essentials such as food and fuel now significantly more expensive, the festive season may lose its usual vibrancy for millions. Experts have warned that without immediate measures to ease the economic burden, this year’s “Detty December” could be marred by widespread hardship.
Stay tuned for more insights in NRTC WEEKLY as we continue to examine these pressing issues shaping Nigeria’s social and economic landscape.
