Check out Lookman’s inspirational speech after winning Africa’s best player award

On Monday, Super Eagles and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman gave a short inspirational speech after winning the Africa Player of the Year prize.

His victory was much anticipated as he was the clear favourite to claim the award ahead of the other four finalists.

Lookman claimed the top individual award ahead of Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Cote d’Ivoire’s Simon Adingra, and South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

Interestingly, after he stepped up to receive his award, Lookman greeted his beloved Nigerian people in his native Yoruba. He then went on to give a motivational speech.

“This award today is a blessing to me, to my family, to my nation. And to be recognised as the best player in Africa is something incredible and I am extremely proud of,” Lookman said.

Speaking further, he advised young people never to allow their past failures to determine how their future will be.

“Just over four years ago I failed in front of the world. Fast forward to four years I am the best player in Africa,” he recalled.

“I want to say to the young children and young people watching this: ‘Don’t let your failures weigh you down that they break your wings. Turn your pain into your power and continue to fight and continue to fly’, God bless!”
