The delegation included Queeneth Orobedo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Safety and Security; Jerry Idahosa, Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA); and Omoluru Osayande, Director of the Edo State Fire Service.

During the visit, Okungbowa conveyed Governor Okpebholoā€™s condolences to the family, describing Omotor as a courageous and diligent firefighter who died in the line of duty.

He emphasised that the 45-year-old left behind a grieving wife, six children, and an elderly mother, all of whom are struggling to cope with the loss of their breadwinner.

ā€œWe are here to mourn with the family of one of our fallen heroes, Mr Andreww Omotor,ā€ Okungbowa said. ā€œHe answered a distress call to save lives and properties but, unfortunately, paid the ultimate price. His sacrifice will not be forgotten.ā€

He further disclosed that another firefighter injured during the incident is receiving treatment at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

Okungbowa assured the family that Governor Okpebholo would personally visit them to offer additional support.

ā€œThe governor, known for his compassion, has promised to ensure that necessary measures are taken to provide relief to the family during this challenging time,ā€ he added.
