Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim believes his team still has areas to improve despite a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Rangers in the Europa League.

The win at Old Trafford strengthened their hopes of automatic qualification for the last 16, with one match remaining in the league phase.

The decisive goal came from Bruno Fernandes, who scored in stoppage time during his 50th Europa League appearance.

Fernandes’ winner followed an equaliser by Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers, who struck in the 88th minute for Rangers. Earlier, an own goal by Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland, who misjudged Christian Eriksen’s corner, had given United the lead.

Amorim acknowledged his teamā€™s improved performance with the ball but highlighted moments where they lost control of the game. He noted that small mistakes led to brief periods of instability, although he was pleased with the team’s overall effort and ability to recover after conceding late.

“We played better with the ball, showing more speed and connections,” Amorim explained. “However, we made some bad decisions, which cost us control for seven minutes. Despite that, the players showed resilience.”

United had several missed opportunities to extend their lead before Dessers equalised, putting pressure on the team. However, Fernandesā€™s late strike ensured victory and kept their momentum alive heading into the final group match against FCSB.

Looking ahead, Amorim emphasised the importance of his Manchester United players focusing on every game and striving for consistent improvement. “Our goal is to win every match and the competition itself,” he added. “Although this was a good victory, we still have areas to work on.”

With the win, United remain in a strong position, but their focus must now shift to the crucial upcoming fixture. Their determination to secure a place in the knockout stages will undoubtedly be tested in Romania next week.
