Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has assured residents that the state is making steady progress towards comprehensive development and prosperity.
In a message to mark the 49th anniversary of the state’s creation, Governor Aiyedatiwa paid tribute to the state’s founding fathers for their courage, foresight, and contributions to its growth.
He pledged to build on their legacies and ensure the state’s continued advancement.
The state was created on February 3, 1976, by the military administration of General Murtala Muhammed, following its separation from the old Western Region.
Over the past 49 years, the state has been governed by 19 leaders, including 12 military administrators and seven civilian governors.

Aiyedatiwa, the current governor, assumed office on December 27, 2023.
The governor emphasised his administration’s commitment to maximizing Ondo’s potential for the benefit of its people, calling for continued public support as his government steers the state toward greater development.
“As we approach the state’s 50th anniversary next year, a committee will soon be set up to plan the golden jubilee celebrations,” Aiyedatiwa announced.
The governor congratulated the people of Ondo on the milestone and reaffirmed his dedication to fostering sustainable growth and inclusive governance in the Sunshine State.
