The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has assured candidates that no one will sit for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) outside the state where they registered.
This assurance was given by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, during a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
Benjamin explained that while some candidates took their mock UTME in states different from where they registered or lived, this was only due to limited availability of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for the mock exam. He clarified that all registered centres would be operational during the main UTME.
“If centres for mock in Abuja are filled up and there were available centres in Nassarawa State, candidates will be sent there,” he said.

He added that such a situation is unlikely to occur during the main examination, as more CBT centres will be available. This means no candidate will be required to travel outside their state of registration for the actual UTME.
Benjamin also pointed out that how early a candidate registers plays a role in determining how close their exam centre will be to their residence. If nearby centres are already full, they may be assigned to any available one within the same state.
In a statement released on Sunday, Benjamin acknowledged some delays and technical issues experienced during the mock exam. He expressed the board’s regrets over any inconvenience caused.
He noted that the challenges were expected because of new features introduced to improve the conduct of the main examination.
“The mock examination serves as a trial version of the UTME, allowing the board to test new innovations while helping candidates familiarise themselves with the CBT environment,” he stated.
“Over the years, this initiative has successfully achieved its objectives, addressing noted lapses and equipping candidates with valuable experience for the main examination.”
He further encouraged candidates to continue making necessary efforts to ensure a better and smoother examination experience.
The 2025 UTME is set to commence on April 25.
