2027: Aiyedatiwa urges Ondo APC to back Tinubu’s re-election bid

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to put unity above personal ambition as the party moves closer to unveiling its timetable for the 2027 primaries.

Addressing party stakeholders yesterday, in Ore during a senatorial district meeting, the governor stressed that while individual aspirations were legitimate, the party’s overriding priority remained securing a second term for President Bola Tinubu.

With contests looming for legislative seats, governorships and the presidency, Aiyedatiwa cautioned against the divisions that often trail party primaries.

He urged aspirants to remain loyal to the APC, regardless of the outcome of internal contests.

“I know many of you have ambitions,” he said. “But we must not lose sight of our collective goal — the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. Stay committed to the party, whether you emerge as candidates or not. Everyone’s time will come.”

Drawing from his own political journey, Aiyedatiwa reflected on past disappointments to underline the value of patience and loyalty.

He recalled losing out in bids for the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the deputy governorship ticket in 2016.

Despite those setbacks, he said he remained within the party — a decision he believes ultimately paved the way for his emergence as governor.

“Today, I am governor,” he noted. “That alone shows that persistence pays, and there is indeed a time for everyone.”

Earlier, Ondo APC Chairman Babatunde Kolawole praised the governor’s performance, citing ongoing development projects across the state.

He urged party members and residents to sustain their support to consolidate the administration’s gains.

The meeting drew prominent figures within the party, including Agboola Ajayi, Olusola Oke, and Isaac Kekemeke, alongside other stakeholders.

The gathering underscored a broader effort by the Ondo APC to close ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a clear focus on unity and support for the presidency.
