Addressing supporters at the rally, Makinde said his decision to join the presidential race was driven by what he described as the need to reposition the country and offer Nigerians a fresh political direction.

The declaration marked a departure from the mainstream structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where internal divisions have continued to deepen in recent months.
Before the public declaration, Makinde led the Tanimu Turaki-aligned faction of the PDP in the state into a formal alliance with the APM through a Memorandum of Understanding.
The agreement is expected to reshape the political landscape in the South-West ahead of the 2027 elections.
