Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has cautioned politicians nursing plans to rig the 2027 governorship election in the state to abandon such ambitions, stressing that both divine will and the people’s choice will determine the outcome.

Otti issued the warning on Thursday during the October edition of his monthly media interaction, Alex Otti Speaks to Abians, held at the Government House in Umuahia. The event was streamed on Channels Television’s YouTube page.

While making it clear that he has no objection to anyone aspiring for office, the governor warned that those intending to manipulate the electoral process would face grave repercussions.

“I have heard that some people around him say oh, they must take over this state, they must write results but the only advice I have for them is that if they truly want to write results, they should write something else before that time.
You know what it is? Their will,” Otti said.

The governor’s statement came in response to a question regarding comments reportedly made by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who was quoted as saying that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would take control of Abia in 2027.

Otti reiterated that while political competition is healthy, attempts to subvert the electoral process will not be tolerated.

His remarks come amid increasing political activities in Abia as various parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 governorship race.

Governor Otti, who contested under the Labour Party, broke the Peoples Democratic Party’s more than 20-year dominance in Abia politics following his victory in the 2023 election.
