‘Acting has always been my dream’ – Ayo Maff speaks on film debut

Nigerian music star Ayo Mafoluku, known professionally as Ayo Maff, has shared that stepping into acting fulfilled a long-held personal ambition, one he finally realised with his recent appearance on the big screen.

Speaking during the Funding the Creative Enterprise Ecosystem panel at NECLive 2025, moderated by Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, the singer explained that years of making music videos gradually drew him toward filmmaking.

“I wanted to see myself in a movie, and I was happy to take this role and embrace the opportunity,” he said.

The panel session also delved into practical strategies for creatives seeking better control and profit over their work, stressing the importance of proper financial planning, legal protection, and efficient risk management.

Ayo’s transition into acting tied neatly into the wider discussion, mirroring the surge of Nigerian creatives who are increasingly exploring multiple artistic paths.
