Ayo Makun: Celebrating an Icon at 50


On August 19, 2021, Nigerian comedian, actor, filmmaker and business man, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY clocked 50 years. AY is a prolific entertainer who has spent over two decades in the entertainment industry.

His passion for entertainment dates back to his days at university. An alumnus of Delta State University, Abraka, Makun has blazed the trail to become one of the great minds of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

He is the organizer of the popular AY Live, a comedy and music packed event. Also, he is a celebrated filmmaker and actor. He is notable for 30 Days in Atlanta, 10 Days in Sun City, Coming to Jamaica and Merry Men. He has also featured in other movies including Omo Ghetto, Wedding Party, Bitter Rain, and many more.

On his 50 th birthday, fans, friends, colleagues, and family members took to social media to celebrate the entertainment icon. Some persons were shocked at his age as he looks much younger. They spoke of his antecedents and wished him many more fruitful years to come. Ayo Makun is married to Mabel and they are blessed with a daughter, Michelle.

Omotola Jalade Ekeinde started by praising Ayo Makun in Ondo dialect. Then, she continued: ‘’Damn, first time writing sentences in Ondo dialect! All for you! You are a hard worker. Known you since your Uni days when you brought me to your school and you are still as excited. Working like you just began. May all good things keep coming for you Ayo. Happy 50th. LLNP.’’

Richard Mofe-Damijo made a video to celebrate Makun on his special day. He said: ‘’Happy birthday, Ayodeji AY Richard Makun. At once, you are my son. Then you are my friend; then a colleague. I just want to say that I love you. On the occasion of your fiftieth birthday, I just want to say that I love you. I love you for all the things that you have done in this world. The positivity that you represent; your zest for life to help people; to help your family. All the things you have to go through in your life to arrive at where you are today which is not the pinnacle yet of your
success. But the beginning of a life for you which is about to start because you have been working so hard…’’
