Rotimi Amaechi, who served as the former Minister of Transportation is quite confident that he would emerge victorious against Atiku Abubakar at the ADC presidential primary.

He made remarks in response to the former vice president’s consistent success at the party’s primary elections in the past.

The former governor of Rivers State, noted that despite the Atiku’s success at the said point, he hasn’t been able to succeed beyond getting tickets at the general elections.

Rotimi further noted that unlike most of his competitors in the ongoing primaries of the ADC, he never contested for the position of president in the previous years.

Despite the political rivalry, Amaechi praised both Atiku and Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, saying either of them would perform better than President Bola Tinubu if elected.

Further still, Amaechi accused the president of fostering ethnocentrism in the country by contrasting his administration with the one led by the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo who was a dedicated nationalist according to him.

On the subject of zoning, Amaechi indicated that he backed the concept because it is significant for unity in the country amid prevailing political cleavages.

The politician made the comments following a warning about the dangers associated with marginalisation of some parts of the country where insecurity prevails and people are not satisfied.

The comments were made as the party gears up for its presidential primaries to take place on May 25, 2026, before the 2027 general election.

Among others, Atiku and economist Mohammad Hayatu-Deen will be seeking the ticket from the party which insists that there is no favourite among the candidates and will settle for a consensus.
