AFCON 2023: Angola breeze past Namibia to seal quarterfinals place

Angola have become the first nation to qualify for the quarterfinals of the AFCON 2023 after a resounding 3-0 victory over Namibia.

The Central African side were reduced to ten men after Neblu received his marching orders 17 minutes into the encounter.

That did not deter them from stamping their authority in the game when they went ahead in the 38th minute.

Gelson Dala met Fredy’s pass to put the Angolans in front despite Namibia having the numerical advantage.

Two minutes later, Lubeni Haukongo was sent off after he received a second yellow to reduce Namibia to ten as well. And then shortly after Gelson doubled the advantage to see Angola lead 2-0 at halftime.

Namibia were playing in their first-ever AFCON knockouts and any dream of a possible comeback was completely crushed with the Black Sable antelopes’ third.

Mabululu received a through ball from Gelson Dala and then sailed a fantastic curling effort into the far corner.

Angola will now face the winner of the Nigeria-Cameroon tie in the last eight.
