Afrobeats is losing its spark due to too many song releases – Slimcase

Nigerian singer Oluwafemi Oladapo, popularly known as Slimcase, has shared his opinion on the current trend in Afrobeats and the pressure among artistes to release new music constantly.

In a post on his Instagram page, Slimcase expressed concern that Nigerian musicians are flooding the industry with excessive songs and albums.

He said the rush to stay relevant has made many artists lose creativity and freshness in their sound.

Slimcase urged his colleagues to slow down and take breaks like international stars who explore other ventures before returning to music with renewed energy.

He said the frequent release of singles and albums is gradually draining the excitement that once defined Afrobeats.

The singer added that he only plans to release one song this year, noting that only God can create something new every day.

According to him, the overcrowding of the music space with back-to-back projects is making the genre less enjoyable for listeners.

He said: “Too many songs, too many albums. You all put yourselves under pressure. Take a break and be like Rihanna do other things and return with a fresh vibe. Your sounds are getting boring because they come too often. I owe them a song this year and that’s it. It’s only God that is new every morning. Everyday singles and albums are killing Afrobeats gradually. It’s not fun anymore.”
