A social media user identified as Omo Oodua on the microblogging site, Twitter (otherwise known as X) has threatened to boycott the Nigerian owned airline, Air Peace after veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo published a video online defending the airline’s decision to clothe members of it’s cabin crew in Isi Agu, an Igbo traditional attire.

News Round The Clock (NRTC) recalls that Air Peace cabin crew members donned Isi Agu during its inaugural direct flight from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to Gatwick Airport, London, on March 30.

The development has been trailed by mixed reactions, with some Nigerians saying the airlineā€™s decision to adopt Igbo traditional attire for its cabin crew members showed a lack of patriotism.

Reacting, Kanayo berated the critics, insisting that the airline did right by adopting Igbo traditional attire.

In a video message shared via his Instagram page, Kanayo said: ā€œI just watched a video of Barr. Allen Onyema, the CEO of Air Peace, explaining why the Isi Agu was adopted as their cabin crew uniform for the London route of Air Peace because somebody complained, ā€˜Why Isi Agu?ā€™

ā€œWhy not Isi Agu? Should it have been a buba and iro or agbada and everyone would be happy? Anytime anything good comes to the Igbo, people bring in hate speech. We must stop this. It doesnā€™t get us anywhere. That is the identity adopted by Air Peace and it should be respected.

ā€œAllen Onyema and his brother, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, have done more for the airline industry than the Nigerian nation has done. They should be commended, not vilified.ā€

Reacting to the trending video, the social media user stated,

Again who cares ??? ,As a Yoruba Man I won’t feel comfortable flying Air peace any longer Kanayo Kanayo can’t hide his hate for Yoruba people. Your kinsmen can fly their family airline. Just be aware if Yoruba people boycott the airline it is good as dead on that route.”
