Weeks after contemplating about your decision to stop being disrespected and cautioned for the minutest of things, in your brokenness you decide it’s time to move out.

Or perhaps, you just got a new job and you want to find a neighborhood suitable for you, in this News Round The Clock (NRTC) piece, we would be looking at major things to note prior to taking that apartment.

  1. Your bank account

Hey, what’s your budget?

If you want to get a house on the Island in Lagos state, you should expect it to be the same price as the total package for the neighborhood in the mainland area of the state. The prices vary, hence, it’s quintessential that you carry out your research and balance your pocket prior to moving out of your parent’s apartment.

The ease that comes with getting an apartment is relative and it varies across states and it also depends on the individual.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • what is your budget?
  • can you afford this apartment?
  • also, do you really need to spend so much to get an apartment of your own?

First things first, take a look at your account balance, are prepared for this phase of your life?

  1. Building structure

Fair enough, you think you have the funds and you have made up your mind to sway from the prying eyes of your parents and members of your family, before you pay for that new apartment, survey the proposed environment, the building specifically.

Are there cracks on the wall? Unkempt surroundings? Dilapidated buildings?

Dear friend, don’t do yourself any harm just because it’s cheap. There are reports of houses collapsing every now and then, hence, ask ideally questions and keep your eyes wide open.

As a matter of fact, I’d suggest you visit the proposed apartments with a guardian, relative or someone who is more experienced in the specification.

It’s a rule, low income earners will often reside in middle to poor communities. The amount in your pocket would more-often-than-not dictate where you reside, hence, the decision is right in the palm of your hands.

Should you choose an impecunious environment like the shanties, you should expect the hedonism and highlife of those who reside in highbrow areas.

Another point to note is that, choosing a poor neighborhood would determine what you would be exposed to on a regular basis.

In most poor communities, the crime rate is high and there are lots of atrocities going on in these communities.

Be certain you certain you are prepared for the nefarious reality that awaits you once you make your choice.

  1. Waterlogged environment

Have you seen what people who reside on the Island (in Lagos state) usually go through during the rainy season?

Is that what you want for yourself? After spending so much money to get your apartment, you will be praying your apartment doesn’t get flooded once it gets flooded.

For each moment it drizzles, you lose a property and something of value to you.

Think again before you move into a waterlogged environment, a word is enough for the wise.

  1. Power supply

Prior to acquiring your generator or solar panel, you would to be sure that the neighborhood you’re going into doesn’t have poor power supply.

It isn’t ideal you squander all your funds on fuel so as to charge your phone and other gadgets. You want to have some savings and investments as well, hence, you want to make sure power supply which is one of the basic necessities of a Nigerian is met.

It is advisable you reside in an environment with atleast 15-18 hours power supply daily.
