As part of activities marking his first 100 days in office, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has flagged off the dualisation of the 27.5-kilometre Igbokoda–Okitipupa road.
Flagging off the road on Monday, he described the project as a critical infrastructure that will drive economic growth and support the planned deep seaport development.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area, Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to regional integration, improved mobility, and investment-driven development.
He assured residents, stakeholders and development partners of the state’s readiness to provide the necessary infrastructure to attract investments and tourism.
“The dualisation of the Igbokoda–Okitipupa Township Road is a key component of our broader economic strategy,” the governor said.
“It is not just a transport upgrade but a deliberate step toward unlocking the economic potential of the southern senatorial district, especially in view of the proposed deep seaport project.”

Aiyedatiwa added that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for the Marine and Blue Economy, positioning the state as a major player in the national maritime sector due to its extensive coastline and aquatic resources.
He recalled that the former administration of President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the establishment of the Ondo Deep Seaport, a development that underscored the strategic importance of the state.
“This project is one of several strategic initiatives conceived to proactively address the logistical demands of the emerging port,” he stated.
Abiola Olawoye, the Special Adviser to the governor on Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, provided technical details of the project, noting that the road will span 27.5 kilometres with a 28-metre corridor.
It will feature a 9.3-metre carriageway, 1.5-metre walkways on both sides, 4 metres of road width, and space allocated for utility services and hydraulic structures.
In their separate remarks, Ilaje and Okitipupa LGA Chairmen, Maurice Oripenaye and Andrew Ogunsakin, alongside traditional rulers such as the Abodi of Ikale, Oba Babatunde Faduyile, and the Amapetu of Mahin Kingdom, Oba Segun Akinyomi, commended the governor for prioritising infrastructure in the region.
Abdul Gorey, the contractor handling the project, pledged to deliver the road to specification and on schedule.
