Death is a price owed by every living being. Time is the variable. The fact that life is the currency for payment should give us enough reason to live credibly.
What is your worth? Is quality of life measured by luxury cars or expensive acquisitions? Or perhaps by financial strength? Are you a “constituted authority” whose power soars above the people you were elected to lead?
Death visited the former governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi reportedly on June 25, 2020. His death sparked controversy across social media. These controversies were hoisted by a tweet made by Nigeria’s foremost investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo on June 18, 2020.

Soyombo stated emphatically that his source of six years, which has never failed him, confirmed that Abiola Ajimobi was dead.
Soyombo suffered backlash over the post. He was called unprintable names. However, the investigative journalist was unshaken and unmoved. In fact, he refused to delete his post despite the incessant attack on his person.
Moreso, the attack came from notable personalities and his colleagues, too. Exactly a week later, Ajimobi’s death was announced.
This announcement came after President Muhammadu Buhari dissolved the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The NWC had declared Ajimobi as the party’s Acting National Chairman while he was critically ill.

Political factors were linked to the announcement of his death. Some persons vindicated Fisayo Soyombo who broke the news of Ajimobi’s death first-hand. Another group envisaged an Abba Kyari cum Umaru Musa Yar’Adua death play, again.
As a public figure, some information cannot be hidden. It will only take a short while for the truth to be revealed. For posterity sake, Kemi Olunloyo, another investigative journalist and family member to Abiola Ajimobi, confirmed that he actually died the day Fisayo Soyombo made his tweet.
The former governor of Oyo state has been laid to rest in his hometown of Ibadan. Nevertheless, his life on earth is still a thread for discussion. He is survived by his wife, Florence and their five children.
During the period of his burial, Mrs Florence Ajimobi had some disparities with the incumbent governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde.
From the decision on where her late husband was to be buried, to comments made about the deputy governor of Oyo state which has gone viral; every fact proclaims Florence Ajimobi as a woman who rides on the wings of power and sails with the tide of emotions. She almost forgot that she was mourning the passing of her husband.
In her words, she stated that her husband served the people of Oyo state for eight years. Well, she is right. Abiola Ajimobi ruled Oyo state for two tenures between 2011 and 2019. He was the first governor to rule for two consecutive terms.
That record may mean nothing to students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH). It was during Ajimobi’s tenure that students from that institution protested against being at home for months on end.
The protesting students were greeted with a harsh response from Governor Ajimobi who asked them why they had the audacity to challenge him: ‘the Constituted Authority of the state’.

That statement earned him the alias ‘Constituted Authority’. Apart from the students of LAUTECH, pensioners whose salaries were owed for a long period will never forget Ajimobi.
We must learn to forgive the ills of the dead; as they are gone and cannot undo their actions. We must also learn to show sympathy to the bereaved.
Regardless of what the world thinks, Abiola Ajimobi lives on in the hearts of the people he affected.
