The Amotekun Corps in Ogun State has removed six pregnant women from its ongoing training programme after a routine screening revealed their condition.
The corps commander, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.), explained that the decision was made because the training is physically demanding and could endanger both the women and their unborn babies.
The recruits were part of the 125 women undergoing a three-week training exercise at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sagamu, which began on Sunday, July 6 and is expected to end on Friday, July 18.
Adedigba said the nature of the drills could lead to complications such as miscarriage or other health issues.
He stressed that while the agency values their passion to serve, safety must come first.
He also assured the affected women that they can return to complete the training once they have given birth and reapply in the next recruitment cycle.
The commander added that the agency is committed to maintaining discipline and protecting the lives and welfare of both its officers and the people of Ogun State.
