Arise Presidential Debate: The agenda towards a secure nation.

The presidential debate, which took place on November 6th, was organized by Arise Television and the Center for Democracy and Development. This meeting’s first phase, which included topics like security and the economy, took place at the Transcorp Hill Hotel in Abuja.

Candidates in attendance.

The meeting was attended by Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ifeanyi Okowa, who filled in for Atiku Abubakar, the president of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Mr Kola Abiola, and the presidential candidates of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Mr Kwankwaso.

The absence of the APC and PDP presidential candidates sparked outrage and was not well received. The crowd objected to this action claiming “No representation by proxy”, the people wanted to hear from the horse’s mouth.

Towards security development

The candidates present discussed their stances on economic and security issues. The Nigerian military’s workforce, according to Kwankwaso of the NNPP, is woefully inefficient, and improving the military would be a surefire method to solve Nigeria’s security issues, he claimed.

Obi of the Labour Party suggested, among other things, that engagement with parties connected to the breakdown of peace may be conducted through peaceful negotiations. To promote peace in the nation, it is important to work with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Boko Haram sect while simultaneously making sure that offenders face the full force of the law.

Okowa, who is running in Atiku’s place, emphasizes the importance of giving the police more authority and employing technology to combat insecurity.

PRP’s Abiola, who like others focused on the deteriorating security situation, advanced the need to review its inherent architecture and contended that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari underutilized the office of the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, as the reason for the country’s deteriorating security.
