Over the years, there has always been emphasis on life skills an adult must cultivate and nurture. Some of these life skills are decision-making, creative thinking, interpersonal relationship skills, self- awareness building skills, empathy, and coping with stress and emotions.
However, as adults, I think it is a bit dangerous not to be able to do these three things.
1. Driving
I know your parents may not have a car. This is not an excuse. You can register in a driving school and start learning driving. This skill is essential because it might come in handy someday.

2. Swimming
Swimming is a great workout because you need to move your whole body against the resistance of the water. Swimming is a good all-round activity because it keeps your heart rate up, boosts your mood and relieves stress, builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness.

Knowing how to swim and feeling comfortable around water will greatly reduce the risk of drowning. By learning basic skills like floating, water-treading, and breathing, you will be able to help yourself and others in case of accidentally falling into the water.
3. Cooking
As adults, knowing how to cook forces you to create your own daily diet without having any outside influence. You’ll be more responsible for your intake of different foods and learning how to properly balance your diet with fruits, vegetables, dairy products, grains, meats, etc.
According to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a Nigerian writer, “…I’ve never thought it made sense to leave such a crucial thing–the ability to nourish oneself–in the hands of others…”
It is never too late to learn or perfect these skills. You can never tell what may happen when you are travelling, by road or on water, or how dietary changes can affect your overall health and lifestyle.
