Nigeria international Ademola Lookman joined Atletico online transfer deadline day, signing a contract until June 2030. His impact has been immediate and decisive across three different competitions.
Lookman marked his debut on February 5 with a milestone goal. He scored in the Copa del Rey quarter-final against Real Betis, his 100th career goal, and provided an assist for Antoine Griezmann in the 5-0 thrashing. He became the first Nigerian to score in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, and the Copa del Rey.

The 28-year-old then struck in the Champions League. He scored on his European debut for Atletico during the 3-3 first-leg draw with Club Brugge on February 18. Lookman became the first Atletico player to score on his Champions League debut as a starter since Angel Correa in 2015.
He opened his La Liga account on Saturday. Lookman scored with a diving header in the 58th minute of Atletico’s 4-2 victory over Espanyol, extending the hosts’ lead before being substituted. The win ended a three-game winless run for Diego Simeone’s side.
Perhaps most significantly, Lookman scored in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final against Barcelona. His strike helped with a commanding 4-0 win over the holders at the Metropolitano. He now has two goals and two assists in two Copa appearances.
The London-born forward has now played in all of Europe’s top five leagues. He is the first English-born player to feature in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, and La Liga.
