The Kwara State Government has reached a milestone in its infrastructural development drive with the handing over of the State Convention Centre construction site to the designated contractor, Vita Construction Company Limited.
The ceremony, which signals the immediate commencement of work on the landmark project, was performed by the Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Damilola Adelodun.
Represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mary Adeoshun, the Commissioner described the facility as a “giant stride” under the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq.
The state government envisions the new Convention Centre as a strategic asset designed to transform Kwara into a premier destination for high-level conferences, investment, and international tourism.
During the handover, Adelodun emphasised that the project reflects a deep-seated commitment to creating world-class infrastructure.
She issued a stern charge to the contractors to ensure top-tier quality in delivery, adhere strictly to project specifications and maintain a timeline for prompt completion.

“This project represents a significant responsibility entrusted to all stakeholders,” the Commissioner remarked, urging professionalism to protect the integrity of both the state government and the construction firm.
The General Manager of the Kwara State Public Procurement Agency (KWPPA), QS Raheem Baki, expressed personal and professional pride in the project’s takeoff.
He lauded the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology for its track record in managing high-impact projects, citing the Ilorin International Conference Centre, the Garment Factory, and the ongoing rehabilitation of the Kwara Hotel as evidence of the ministry’s capability.
Baki encouraged the consultants and the construction team to operate as a unified front to ensure the project’s success.
Responding on behalf of the project team, Mubarak Gidado of Baron Consultants praised the state government for its foresight in initiating such a “massive and impactful” project.
He provided assurances that the work would be carried out under rigorous professional supervision and in total compliance with the government’s technical requirements.
With the site now in the hands of the developers, the Convention Centre is expected to become a cornerstone of the state’s burgeoning business and innovation landscape.
