Bendel Insurance Football Club has appointed Kennedy Boboye as its new Technical Manager, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Benin-based side.
The announcement, made on Monday by the club’s Director of Media and Communications, Kehinde Osagiede, comes barely a week after the suspension of former coach Greg Ikhenoba.
Official announcement
According to the statement, Boboye’s appointment followed a mutual agreement with the club’s management, which expressed confidence in his ability to restore stability and inspire stronger performances. The former Plateau United and Sunshine Stars boss will assume full responsibility for the team’s technical department with immediate effect, under a two-year contract.
The management, after a careful evaluation, concluded that Boboye’s impressive credentials and proven track record make him the ideal choice. His arrival, they said, is expected to usher in a renewed sense of belief among players and fans as the team seeks to regain momentum in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Furthermore, arrangements have been finalised for his official unveiling in Benin City on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
A new dawn for the Benin Arsenals

The appointment comes at a critical period for the club, which has been battling inconsistent results and managerial uncertainty. Just last week, the Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC) suspended head coach Greg Ikhenoba after Bendel Insurance suffered a shock home defeat to Nasarawa United, losing by a solitary goal.

In the interim, former Super Eagles player and Executive Director at the ESSC, Coach Baldwin Bazuaye (MON), stepped in to steady the ship. His short stint ensured minimal disruption as the club sought a long-term solution.
Meanwhile, ESSC Chairman Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele expressed gratitude to Bazuaye for his professionalism and service during the brief transitional period. He emphasised that the board remains committed to maintaining stability and promoting excellence in Edo’s football institutions.
Experienced gaffer on the local scene
Boboye’s arrival is expected to bring not just tactical discipline but also a winning mentality. Having led Plateau United to their historic first NPFL title in 2017, and later guiding Akwa United to their maiden league triumph in 2021, his resume speaks volumes.
With Bendel Insurance eager to reclaim their competitive edge, fans are hopeful that Boboye’s winning aura will translate into improved performances on the pitch. And as he prepares to take charge officially, the Benin Arsenals are banking on his experience to transform their season and restore pride to one of Nigeria’s most storied clubs.
