Fierce, enlightening, and pushing forth a narrative through music is the aspiration of Burna Boy, the self-acclaimed African Giant. The Grammy Awards nominee and BET Awards winning music star stands on his boisterous lyrics and self acclamations that he can turn things around for himself and others. In short, he is a leader through songs.

With his fifth album released on August 14, 2020, Twice as Tall succeeds African Giant which got the 29-year-old his first Grammy Awards nomination. Twice as Tall was executive produced by Burna Boy, Bose Ogulu, who is the musician’s mother and manager, and Sean Combs, better known as P. Diddy.

Burna Boy has Five Albums So Far

The fifth album release of the Ye crooner has 15 tracks that pass across a variety of messages. The fifth track in the album, Wonderful, is an exhibition of Africa in visuals. More so, the song eulogized Adebayo Ogunlesi, a wealthy Nigerian businessman whom Burna perceived to be a hardworking individual worthy of emulation.

No Fit Vex, the ninth track in the album, extols the diligence of people despite the struggles they go through. Burna praised the efforts of people to stand firm in life. Also, he acknowledges the fact that life itself is not easy. Hence, he cannot get angry over the hustle of people which cause a constraint in their relationships.

The album was etched in English, pidgin, Igbo, Yoruba, Igbo and Patwa. Besides, the album is rich in collaborations from artists like Youssou N’ Dor, Stormzy, Sauti Sol, Chris Martin, and Naughty by Nature. The production quality is top-notch.

It also exudes the ideology the musician has always wanted to push forth. Burna is an African who believes that Africa should unite as one and portray their identity as Africans before identifying with their various countries. In totality, he says, Black Lives Matter.

Burna Boy Gets Accolades from Colleagues

Various factors contribute to the success of any album. We cannot deny the fact that Burna Boy puts in all the efforts necessary to make things happen for himself. Hence, the self-acclaimed African Giant praises his works even as he gets accolades from others who also listen to his works.

The Check and Balance singer stated that although the Twice as Tall album was almost in its completion stage – 80% to be precise, P. Diddy made a tangible impact in the overall work. The contributions and influence of the American music act and businessman cannot be over-emphasized.

Nigerian music producer and Boss of Mavins Records, Don Jazzy has something to say about a track in the album.

Award-winning music icon Tuface Idibia equally praised the music prowess of Burna.

Likewise, P. Diddy stated that the album is worthy to be called the album of the year.

Who is Burna Boy?

Born as Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu on July 2, 1991, Burna Boy gained fame when he released his first song Like to Party in 2012. The song was among the tracks of his first album L.I.F.E which was released in 2013. In 2015, he released On a Spaceship which was his second studio album. Also, 2018 saw the release of his third studio album, Outside. In July 2019, African Giant was released. African Giant won the Port Harcourt-born singer a Grammy Awards nomination for World Best Album.

Burna Boy is a sucker for quality collaborations. He has featured in songs of artists like Wande Coal, Ice Prince, AKA, Sarkodie, Skales, DJ Spinall, Jesse JAGS, Larry Gaaga, Major Lazer, Perruzzi, Beyonce, Jorja Smith, Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, Master KG, Sam Smith, and many others.

His parents were instrumental in his upbringing. His mother, Bose Ogulu is presently his manager. Likewise, his maternal grandfather, Benson Idonije was said to be the former manager of late Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti.

Among his numerous awards is the 2019 BET Awards for Best International Act which he won on June 24, 2019. His style of music is an infusion of reggae, Afrobeat, RnB, and dance hall. With his unending desire to make a mark in the music world, he has garnered many fans for himself over the years.
