Bose Ogulu, the mother and manager of Nigerian music star Burna Boy, has reacted to public opinions about her son’s personality, especially claims that he appears arrogant.
She spoke during an interview on Channels Television with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, where she addressed how people view Burna Boy and how his image is handled.
Ogulu said she is not disturbed by the labels people give to her or her son. According to her, being in the public eye comes with many opinions, but what matters most is their true identity, not what others choose to call them.
She explained that confidence is often misunderstood. In her view, knowing one’s worth and carrying it boldly should not be seen as pride. She believes that standing firm in what you know and showing confidence is part of self-respect.
Ogulu also spoke about the pressure people face to behave in a certain way because of their background. She said factors like skin colour, nationality and gender have influenced how people are expected to act. However, she made it clear that she does not believe anyone should reduce themselves just to meet those expectations.

She maintained that being sure of oneself and showing it openly should not attract criticism, adding that she sees nothing wrong if people choose to describe that confidence in a different way.
“I don’t mind honestly, I don’t mind at all. I mean any adjective they want to attach to you is ok. The thing is who are you? If knowing your worth and carrying himself as such is arrogant, then it is a good thing. And I can’t apologize for that. Because I think we were born into a world where we were expected to put our heads down.

“First is the color of your skin, the color of your passport, for me, my gender. So, I don’t understand the concept of that life. I understand that if I know something, I know it and I expect you to realise that I know it. And if you don’t realize that I know it, then, put me to the test”, she said.
