Carlos Alcaraz reclaimed his US Open title with a masterful four-set victory over rival Jannik Sinner with a dominant 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in New York.
With the victory, the Spaniard regained the world number one ranking and added a sixth Grand Slam trophy to his growing collection.
The final, delayed by heightened security due to former US president Donald Trump’s presence, set the stage for another showdown between two players shaping the sport’s future.
Although the contest lacked the prolonged drama of their French Open and Wimbledon epics, Alcaraz’s superior serving and tactical sharpness ensured a commanding triumph.
A rivalry defining a new era
From the very first games, Alcaraz showcased his explosive shot-making as he mixed variety with consistency.

While Sinner initially held firm, the Spaniard’s relentless returning forced an early breakthrough, and he sealed the opening set with ease. However, momentum shifted in the second as Sinner rediscovered his rhythm. He fired his trademark groundstrokes and broke decisively to level the match.

Even so, Alcaraz refused to be rattled. He rediscovered his rhythm in the third, dictating rallies with precision and artistry at the net. As the Spaniard accelerated, Sinner faltered.
His uncharacteristic errors, perhaps compounded by an abdominal concern from the semi-finals, gave Alcaraz the edge. The Spaniard raced to a double-break advantage as the Italian struggled to match his intensity.
Alcaraz steps into tennis history
With the match tilting firmly in his favour, Alcaraz tightened his grip in the fourth set. Although Sinner saved two championship points, the Spaniard closed out victory in emphatic style, hammering down a 131mph ace before celebrating with his trademark golf swing.
The win not only earned him a second US Open crown but also evened the 2025 Grand Slam split with Sinner at two apiece.
Alcaraz now joins Bjorn Borg as the second-youngest player to win six majors. Reflecting afterward, he joked with Sinner, “I see you more than my family.”
For Sinner, who had enjoyed long reign at number one, the defeat was a reminder of the fine margins at the top. For Alcaraz, however, it was another defining night – proof that he is not just a rising star but already a generational great.
